Laken was confused and didn’t know what to do. She’d already had sex with Hayden twice, fed off him and had him drink her blood. She knew she couldn’t see him again. Because if they made love once more, they would form a blood bond. When that happened, Richard would feel it. She was scared what he would do to her, and to Hayden. So for the next two weeks, she opted out of live donations and took the bagged ones instead. She told Richard she just didn’t like any of the donors she’d seen since Eric left. He didn’t seem to question this.

One night after she finished her bagged donation, there was a knock at her door. She opened it and was surprised to see Richard. He was a handsome vampire, with dark hair, dark eyes and a friendly smile. He was around thirty-two when he was turned, some one hundred-fifty years ago. She met him at the university she attended. He turned her shortly after she graduated.

“May I come in?”

“Sure.”

He sat on the small couch she had in the corner and sighed deeply.

“Please come sit next to me, my dear.”

Laken walked over and sat down next to him.

He looked at her and thought for a moment then said, “I know you have fallen in love, my dear. Don’t worry, I’m not mad. I have come to realize that I cannot keep all of you to myself. It is selfish. You are different from the others. They all wish to blindly follow me. You are strong and will never be a follower. I could tell after the first time you made love to him. I don’t know how he got in here the first time, but the second time I let him in. I planned to allow him in here once more, so you could form a blood bond with him. But you have refused a live donor for weeks now. If you do not wish Hayden to return, tell me and you will never see him again. Just tell me.”

Laken sat, shocked. She didn’t know what to say.

“Richard, I believe I love Hayden. I need to be with him. It hurts me not to be.”

“Yes, my dear, the bond has started forming. You know that is how I found my Vanessa. We were blood bound before I turned her, so we could be together forever.”

“But I can not be with him forever. I am only two vampire years old, and I can’t turn anyone until I am fifty.” She started crying.

“That is true, my dear, but I, on the other hand, may turn anyone I wish.”

“You would do that for me?”

“Yes I would. But I do wish you would have a relationship with him as a human before then. The feelings formed during the blood bond process are priceless and I do not wish you two to miss out on them. After a year or so, I will turn him. Then you two will be free to go where you like.
